Statement of Supplemental EEO Outreach Activities:
1. Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. maintains an intern program designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. The program allows interns to gain on-hand experience in various aspects of broadcast operations so that they may develop their skills for future broadcast employment. The interns are afforded the opportunity to work in many departments with experienced station personnel so as to gain a broad overview of the nature of the stations? varied operations. During the period of August 1, 2009 - July 31, 2010, this company has had many interns participating in the program. All of the university students participating in our intern program are in various stages of college studies.
2. Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. contributes to the Southern California Broadcasters Association Scholarship Fund. The fund was created to provide scholarships for students in the field of Radio Broadcast Communications. Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. personnel were involved from its inception, including its organization, assessments, vesting, voting on scholarship recipients, and helping to determine the form of outreach to be used each year.
3. On September 14, 2009, Southern California Broadcasters Association President, Mary Beth Garber, conducted a workshop at Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. to provide EEO and anti-discrimination training to managers of the radio stations. Material covered included the FCC?s current rules and guidelines regarding employment outreach, anti-discrimination procedures in the hiring process and creating practices that abide by the FCC?s guidelines. Human Resource Consultant for Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc., Tami Wiersma, was in attendance.
4. On September 23, 2009, Public Affairs Director, Denise Maynard, attended the ?We Care Job Fair? in West Los Angeles. This was a community-wide event organized to help a wide variety of people who have suddenly found themselves out of work or whose businesses have failed.
5. On October 6, 2009, Public Affairs Director, Denise Maynard, attended an EEO workshop by the American Women in Radio and Television Southern California Chapter. The EEO training is designed to provide training to management to ensure equal employment opportunity hiring practices.
6. On October 8, 2009, Public Affairs Director, Denise Maynard, attended the ?Synergy at Work? Job Fair on the campus of Cal State Long Beach, University in the Student Union.
7. On January 30, 2010, General Counsel, Stephanie Levine, attended an employment law seminar held by the Rutter Group at the Universal Hilton in Los Angeles. Topics covered included sexual harassment, discrimination, hiring practices and overall employment practices
8. On February 9, 2010, Public Affairs Director, Denise Maynard, attended The NAACP Professional and Executive Diversity Job Fair at the Embassy Suites at LAX North. Public service announcements for this Job Fair aired on KKGO/FM and KGIL/AM from January 29, 2010-February 7, 2010.
9. On July 10, 2010, Public Affairs Director, Denise Maynard, attended a conference of the U.S. Department of Labor regarding a coalition to eliminate the exclusion and discrimination of persons with disabilities in the entertainment and news industries. The conference was held at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles.
10. During 2009, Human Resource Consultant, Tami Wiersma, conducted training for Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. that included group training for performance reviews. Also, Sexual Harassment Awareness and Prevention training was conducted with all supervisors and managers and was led by Cal Chamber.
11. From August 15, 2009 ? December 31, 2010, Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. ran EEO announcements that stated the company is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is committed to broad and inclusive outreach for hiring full-time employees. |
